SKI RESORT OPERATIONS • NEW ENGLAND
Matt Pek
I’ve spent more than ten years in ski area operations, starting as a Ski Patrol and Summer Activities supervisor at Stowe and now serving as Senior Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety for Vail Resorts in the Northeast. Most of my work happens side by side with General Managers and department leaders, helping resorts run safely, keep good people and give guests a reason to come back. Before the mountains, I practiced law in New York City and co-founded and operated an organic cocoa business that grew to three locations across the city and was featured in Edible Manhattan.

WHAT I DO NOW
VAIL RESORTS NORTHEAST
I support resort leadership teams across the Northeast, including Stowe and Mount Snow, and previously Attitash and Wildcat in New Hampshire. The work touches almost every part of the operation: mountain ops, skier services, base area, food & beverage, capital projects, and relationships with local regulators and communities. My job is helping leaders make good decisions and building a culture where safety is part of how the mountain runs. Our work at Stowe earned three NSAA safety award finalist nominations and, in 2026, the NSAA Award for Best Employee Safety Program.
HOW I LEAD
Out ONTHE HILL
I’d rather be out on the mountain than behind a desk. I listen first, back my teams, and try to stay steady when things go sideways. The best ideas usually come from the people closest to the work, so I spend a lot of time asking questions. A resort is only as good as the people running it, and when they’re treated well, guests notice.

OFF the clock
Life in the mountains
Northern New England has been home since 2015. When I’m not working, you’ll find me snowboarding with my wife and our two kids, grilling in the backyard, or playing pick-up basketball.
